Website Sail-World reports that a team from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology are in the middle of a project to build a robot yacht to take part in the Microtransat Challenge which is due to take place in September 2009.

Whilst this isn’t the kind of sailing that many people enjoy (surely actually doing the sailing is part of the fun?) it will be interesting to see how challenges such as this drive the technological advances within the sport, even if it’s just ways of making the existing equipment more failsafe.
